چکیده

A homology and cohomology solver for finite element meshes is represented. It is an integrated part of the finite element mesh generator Gmsh. We demonstrate the exploitation of the cohomology computation results in a finite element solver, and use an induction heating problem as a working example. The homology and cohomology solver makes the use of a vectorscalar potential formulation straightforward. This gives better overall performance than a vector potential formulation. Cohomology computation also clarifies the lumped parameter coupling of the problem and enables the user to obtain useful post-processing data as a part of the finite element solution.

Complexes of Discrete Distributional Differential Forms and Their Homology Theory

Complexes of discrete distributional differential forms are introduced into finite element exterior calculus. Thus we generalize a notion of Braess and Schöberl, originally studied for a posteriori error estimation. We construct isomorphisms between the simplicial homology groups of the triangulation, the discrete harmonic forms of the finite element complex, and the harmonic forms of the distr...

On the Cohomology of Highly Connected Covers of Finite Complexes

Relying on the computation of the André-Quillen homology groups for unstable Hopf algebras, we prove that the mod p cohomology of the n-connected cover of a finite H-space is always finitely generated as algebra over the Steenrod algebra.

Computation of Cohomology Operations on Finite Simplicial Complexes

We propose a method for calculating cohomology operations for finite simplicial complexes. Of course, there exist well–known methods for computing (co)homology groups, for example, the “reduction algorithm” consisting in reducing the matrices corresponding to the differential in each dimension to the Smith normal form, from which one can read off (co)homology groups of the complex [Mun84], or t...

On the cohomology of highly connected covers of finite Hopf spaces

Relying on the computation of the André–Quillen homology groups for unstable Hopf algebras, we prove that if the mod p cohomology of both the fiber and the base in an H -fibration is finitely generated as algebra over the Steenrod algebra, then so is the mod p cohomology of the total space. In particular, the mod p cohomology of the n-connected cover of a finite H -space is always finitely gene...

Quantitative Comparison of Analytical solution and Finite Element Method for investigation of Near-Infrared Light Propagation in Brain Tissue Model

Introduction: Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) is an imaging method in which light source and detector are installed on the head; consequently, re-emission of light from human skin contains information about cerebral hemodynamic alteration. The spatial probability distribution profile of photons penetrating tissue at a source spot, scattering into the tissue, and being released at ...
